January
The average temperatures don’t get colder than this in Juneau, so pack warmly and keep in mind that the rainy/snowy weather will make this feel even chillier, especially near bodies of water, like Auke Lake or Mendenhall Glacier.
With the greatest amount of natural snowfall of any time of year, this is the time to visit Eaglecrest Ski Area. You’ll enjoy fresh powder almost daily and get to experience a unique ski getaway.

February
Winter continues in February with weather hanging right around freezing and only slightly warmer than January. Skiing weather is still in its prime with 17 inches of snow during February on average. Plan to bundle up during your February Juneau visit with insulating layers and waterproof layers overtop.

March
You’ll start to see a shift in weather in March toward warmer temps and less snow. But you should still pack like it’s wintertime. You’ll still encounter some very chilly weather and tourist season still has a few more months to go before you’ll see extended hours and the return of excursions. Plan accordingly.

Best activities: Dog sledding, ice fishing, cross country skiing, helicopter tours (but plan far in advance as some tour companies might be closed, limiting your options)
April
Come April, the weather shows a clear turn toward spring. You’ll be able to shed a layer of outerwear during the day and enjoy the driest month as far as precipitation goes. Tourist season is right around the corner, so finding excursions and experiences while in town might get a little easier, though you won’t see extended hours for about another month at most locations. You might be able to snag some solid pre-season specials at a Juneau hotel and on airfare.
Snowfall is rare this time of year, so don’t plan to visit for skiing or ice fishing at this point. Turn your sights toward hiking and exploration.

Best activities: Hiking, exploring downtown, catching the rare excursion before the hustle and bustle at companies willing to open early for the season.

May
Juneau, Alaska, weather by month shows that May brings more favorable conditions, kickstarting the tourist season. Visiting earlier in the month means fewer crowds and a more relaxed experience. Alaskans bid the snow goodbye in May and start to welcome the first cruise ships to town, which will steadily increase throughout the month, making the streets busier and busier with every passing day.

June
As the season shifts to summer, you’ll get some of the most favorable weather in Juneau with lower precipitation rates and some of the warmest temperatures you’ll experience in Juneau at any point in the year. No matter when you visit in June, shops and excursions will be open and ready to welcome you.

Best activities: All excursion companies are open for business and ready to welcome tourists throughout June.
July
July is the warmest month for weather in Juneau. The precipitation is easier to work around, making it an ideal time to visit. Just know that many other people also view July as an ideal time to visit before the back-to-school hustle begins.
Air temperature: Average highs are 64 degrees F, while average lows are 50 degrees F.
Precipitation: 4.60 inches

Best activities: Any Juneau sightseeing tour or excursion, as the summer months have the greatest availability.
August
If you want to sneak in an Alaskan vacation before school starts, August is an ideal time. Don’t miss some of the tastes of summer in August with ale trail events, art walks and concerts from the Juneau Symphony and Juneau Lyric Opera.

September
The weather starts to shift toward more traditional fall weather in September but it’s still very much tourist season in Juneau. You’ll find a little less hustle and bustle than you do in June, July and August, but still plan to book your excursions and accommodations early if you want to have the best options because Juneau remains busy.
Air temperature: Average highs are 56 degrees F, while average lows are 44 degrees F.

October
Many excursions stop or slow down during this time of year and the streets get a little quieter as the tourist season slows until May returns. There’s still plenty to do in Juneau in October and if you hate crowds this is the time to visit.
Watch for adjusted hours from merchants and restaurants as the owners take a break following the busy tourist season. Most stay open though, so you’ll still get a good taste of Juneau’s cuisine and shopping during October. Snow returns to Juneau with minimal snowfall in October. But the real snow season is right around the corner in November, December, January, February and March.

November
